Restricted Occupations for Foreigners in Thailand
Foreign LaborOccupations Prohibited for Foreign Nationals
According to the Royal Decree on Occupations and Professions Prohibited to Foreigners (B.E. 2522),
the following jobs are reserved exclusively for Thai nationals:
- Manual labor
- Agriculture, livestock, forestry, or fishing (except specialized, skilled, or supervisory roles)
- Bricklaying, carpentry, and other construction work
- Wood carving
- Driving vehicles or non-mechanized transport (except international airline pilots)
- Retail sales (shopfront selling)
- Auctioning
- Accounting supervision, auditing, and services (except temporary internal audits)
- Cutting and polishing diamonds or gemstones
- Hairdressing, barbering, and beauty services
- Hand-loom weaving
- Making mats or handicrafts from reed, rattan, jute, straw, or bamboo pulp
- Handmade paper
- Lacquerware making
- Thai musical instrument crafting
- Nielloware crafting
- Gold, silver, and gold-alloy crafting
- Stone inlay work
- Making Thai dolls
- Making quilts and comforters
- Making alms bowls
- Handwoven silk product making
- Buddha statue crafting
- Knife making
- Making umbrellas from paper or fabric
- Shoe making
- Hat making
- Brokerage or agent services (except international trade brokers)
- Civil engineering (design, calculation, system planning, research, project planning, testing, construction supervision, or consulting — except specialized engineering roles)
- Architecture (design, drafting, cost estimation, construction supervision, or consulting)
- Dressmaking
- Pottery and ceramics crafting
- Hand-rolling cigarettes
- Tour guiding and tour operations
- Hawking or street vending
- Thai typesetting by hand
- Silk reeling and twisting by hand
- Clerical or secretarial work
- Legal services or litigation services
**Note : Under a Cabinet resolution, foreign workers from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia are temporarily allowed to work
in two occupations only 1. Manual labor 2. Domestic work
