Retirement Visa applicants must not be prohibited from entering Thailand, must have no records affecting national security in Thailand, their home country, or country of residence, and must not have any prohibited diseases under Ministerial Regulation No. 14 (B.E. 2535), which include leprosy, active stage tuberculosis, elephantiasis, drug addiction, and third-stage syphilis. This visa does not permit employment in Thailand.
What Is a Retirement Visa?
A Retirement Visa (Non-Immigrant O-A) allows foreign nationals aged 50 and above to reside in Thailand for up to one year. It can be renewed annually as long as the holder continues to meet all visa conditions. While this type of visa permits long-term residence, it does not allow employment. Retirement Visa holders must report their address every 90 days and maintain adequate financial stability throughout their stay.

- Validity: The visa is valid for one year and can be renewed annually.
- Multiple Re-Entry Capability: Applicants may obtain a multiple re-entry permit, allowing travel in and out of Thailand without voiding the visa.
- Work Restrictions: This visa does not permit the holder to work in Thailand.

- 90-Day Reporting: Holders must report their address to the Immigration Bureau every 90 days.
Required Documents for Retirement Visa Application

- Visa Application Form: Completed and signed application form
- Passport: Valid for at least 18 months
- Passport Photos: Two color photos (4×6 cm) taken within the last 6 months
- Financial Documents:
- Bank Deposit Method: Bank statement showing at least 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months before application
- Income Method: Proof of income (e.g., pension slips or embassy-issued income verification letter)

Retirement Visa Application Process
You may apply for a Retirement Visa either abroad at a Thai Embassy/Consulate or in Thailand if you already hold a valid visa. Key steps include:
- Prepare Required Documents: Ensure all documents are complete and translated into Thai if required.
- Submit Application:
- From Abroad: Apply at the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence.
- In Thailand: Apply at your local Immigration Office, ensuring your current visa is still valid.
- Pay Visa Fee: The typical fee for a single-entry Retirement Visa is approximately 5,000 THB.
- Health Insurance Verification: Immigration officers will confirm whether your health insurance meets the required criteria.
- Processing Time: Processing may take several days to several weeks depending on the location.
- Receive Visa: Once approved, the visa will be stamped into your passport, granting a 1-year stay.
Important Considerations for Retirement Visa Holders
- 90-Day Reporting: Holders must report their address to Immigration every 90 days. This may be done in person or through an authorized representative.
- Re-Entry Permit: If you plan to travel outside Thailand, you must obtain a re-entry permit to prevent your visa from being canceled upon departure.
